JBM:
Has Lars Ulrich ruined the name Lars in your eyes?
Lars:
Na I used to be a fan way back when on their first
album kill em all.
When I was in a huge lawsuit with the RIAA and their recording
members Sony BMG AOL Universal And so forth I thought it would
be funny to try and get lars to sue me so the headlines could
read
Lars Vs. Lars hahha that would been funny but legal advisers
told
me it would not e funny to my wallet so I let it slide.
JBM:
Where are you from and what did you do before the web?
Lars:
I grew up on the California Coast, in Hippy Land.
We had Outhouses and
No electricity. Basically I grew up on a pot farm, I have
worked at several
jobs including dishwasher to stockbroker to Computer Salesman.
JBM:
How did you get started online?
Lars:
I was working as a sales person for a computer company
in 1994
and they wanted me to put their motherboards on the web. I
had never heard of it Mosaic had just come out Yahoo was still
hosted at Stanford on
akebono.stanford.edu and Netcom had one of the first large
commercial ISP's So I started their website and was one of
the first 500 submissions to yahoo.
JBM:
If you had closed a 400 million dollar deal, how would your
life be different?
Lars:
Honestly I think I have already reached my peak lifestyle.
I make way more
than I could ever spend. The only thing I might do is travel
a bit more.
The problem is finding the time to take off to travel. I live
pretty simple, prolly since everything is like living like
a king when ya grow up in a bus :) I do splurge on some luxury
items but really I am a miser and like to hoard my money.
Stuff it into the markets or Real estate. Saving it for a
rainy day.
JBM:
How did you become legendary?
Lars:
I don’t think I have except in my own mind.
Andy Dunn who used to run sexswap gave
me the name and while playing a prank on Karl from Gamma the
idea to brand the
Man in the pimp suit and tie that to the Legendary Lars Band
was born. We went on a
spree of funny banner ads, like the famous cum on Lars Campaign,
this really helped to
solidify the brand.
JBM:
How much have you done in the nonadult arena?
Lars:
I have had some decent success in the non adult,
not as much as I would have
liked but Mp3board.com
and Cashsurfers.com were both big hits, as well as we
had a search engine called Galore.com which did quite well.
Currently I am working
on Friendsurfer.com
which is a fun site that is making a decent return.
JBM:
How did you get so involved with webcams?
Lars:
In 1998 I decided that I liked what I saw at the
live video space and decided I wanted
to build a site to take advantage of live video. After several
failed attempts at the
technology, I was introduced to the owners of Streamray,
and soon took a small
position in the company. After another year in 2000 I bought
out all the other partners
and have been running it since. It is a pretty hard model
to execute, and it took us a
couple years to make ongoing profitability. But now we are
kicking serious ass, and
our Acquisition of CAMS.COM
has really kicked us into high gear!
JBM:
How many webcam pictures of your own penis do you have?
Lars:
None, plus I don’t think they make webcam lenses
big enough to magnify my small
penis tot eh point where anyone could see it.
JBM:
How can you payout so much on a join to a webcam show?
Lars:
Well our current Promotion of $70 PPS is just that
a promotion. I am loosing money
on every sale, and can’t keep it up forever. But I want
to get people to try us out and
get used to using cams, so I am willing to pay out huge $$
to get new affiliates to give
us a try I know once they do we will have a lot of happy new
affiliates that will stick
with us for a long time to come. So far the plan I working
well.

What's the craziest thing you ever saw a chick do on a webcam?
Lars:
We used to have a 70 year old ex pornstar in las
vegas she would do 4- young studs
at a time on cam, it was pretty wild.

Please explain Geo-Marketing for the newbie and how it works.
Lars:
Geo Targeting is a great tool to use in converting
your surfers. Basically the program
looks at the surfers IP address and tries to match up a town
with that IP address,
and displays some text like Talk to hot chicks from Santa
Cruz I live in Santa Cruz
for you it would display your town. It is not 100% accurate
but works about 80%
of the time. Results form this type of ad are amazing. I use
both The geo ads for Our
Cams Program as well as the ones for Adult Friend Finder.
And have seen sales
increase by over 300% . Simply put they are amazing. Here

Sean is my best friend and I am stoked that we also
get to work together. I found
him under a pile of women, who always seem to be following

says its his jeans I think its just secret mojo. And yes we

Can you help me diversify my portfolio? What stocks do you
recommend?
Lars:
I am big on Index ETF I don’t do individual
stocks anymore since I always buy
the stock right before the accounting scandal or the ceo dies
or some stupid shit.
I have much better luck with the overall market. And my new
years resolution is to
buy and hold for at least 1 year at a time. With the current
tax rates in the US you
have to beat the market by double if you in the top tax brackets
in order to break
even on short term vs. long term gains. With that said My
current portfolio is in
EWZ EEM DIA SPY QQQQ IWM EEM and EWZ are foreign stock indexes
and have been going totally nutty due to the falling dollar,
I expect this to continue.

How important are webmaster boards to your business?
Lars:
I Use them all the time to spread my spam propaganda.
I love boards ! I think
my Branding would not be possible and or would cost A lot
more if I did not
have Boards to market on.
JBM:
What was your biggest failure?
Lars:
Prolly a infomercial I tried to copy the idea of
girls gone wild with my own cam
girls get crazy Cost me about 150K total loss. I also had
many pre ipo deals
and stock deals fall flat, and lots a few 100K on those deals
each.
JBM:
Biggest success?
Lars:
CAMS.COM
and Cashsurfers.com both made good money and were pretty
easy to get off the ground.
JBM:
Where do you see our industry heading in the coming years?
Lars:
More consolidation I see more content production
companies taking a larger
and larger slice of the pie and the existing big players moving
more and more
into custom content production. I see spyware and dialers
and downloads
becoming less and less of a factor in revenue streams. More
Mobile technology,
more webcams and dating as personalization comes to bear full
force.
JBM:

Lars:
Hmm since I am such a big mouth this is pretty hard
question. I guess that deep
down inside I am looking for approval and praise from my peers!

One time I had dinner with you and Ken Lawson. I think you
were making goo-goo
eyes at me, I thought you wanted me, but I know your married.
Please remind
me why people get married.
Lars:
Hahhaha I was making goo-goo Eyes at Ken AND you
! I am super lucky to
have found the one woman on the planet who can put up with
my ego ! Marriage
is not for everyone but for me it works very well, I am not
a person who goes out
and parties a lot nor do I live a fast lifestyle. So being
at home with my wife and
kid is the thing I enjoy most in life !
JBM:
Also remind me why people have kids.
Lars:
Ha I love my kid she and my wife are the 2 best things
to ever happen to me ! its a
lot of work and a commitment, but well worth it for those
that are into
that kind of thing.
JBM:
Take me through a typical day at work.
Lars:
9 am COFFEE , STATS , COFFEE , EMAIL COFFEE, ICQ,
COFFEE,
PHONE, COFFEE BOARDS Lunch with Sean, PHONE, STATS, EMAIL,
ICQ 5-9 break 9-11 BOARDS ICQ EMAIL BED..
rinse repeat.. Unless there is a fire to be fixed then it
can be BATTLE MODE !
JBM:
What do you do to relax?
Lars:
SURF , Hang out at coffee shops, Drive my hot rod
around, sit in my pool or
hot tub and watch eh sail boats on the bay ! And also I like
to go on vacation to
warm tropical places.
JBM:

I think I beat that horse up there a bit hahaha

We are always improving on our system and our conversion
