Interviews

Added April, 28th, 2006
Paul Markham:

Paul Markham has been in this industry before it was even on the internet. I had a chance to ask Paul a few questions here's what he had to say.

JBM:
Thanks for taking the time to do the interview. Could you tell us how you got into the adult industry, how long have you been doing this and tell us abit about the ventures you have been part of throughout your career?.

PAUL MARKHAM:
Got into Adult a long time ago, was offered some extras work in a movie that turned out to be a porn movie. This was 1968. Stayed doing that to support my hippy life style, work one week and party for 2 months. Stayed doing it until 1970 and got back into it in 1977 and at that time decided shooting paid more than modeling.

JBM:
Did you have any experience in photography before you started working in adult?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Was always interested in photography, even as a youngster had a camera.

JBM:
Could you tell us what the difference between a photo and a picture is. (from what I hear a person takes a picture, a photographer takes a photo)

PAUL MARKHAM:
Everything is in the eye of the beholder. To me a picture is something to remember a person or place, a photograph is something that makes you think.

JBM:
What are some obstacles you had to overcome during your career as a producer of content? Have you ever had any issues with the law?

PAUL MARKHAM:
I worked most of my career in the UK. In the 80 and most of the 90s you could not work in this business without having problems with the police. Best thing was to stay legal and send them home with nothing.

JBM:
You started doing 2257 type documentation years before 2257 was ever a regulation. Was this because you knew all along that one day these measures would be passed?

PAUL MARKHAM:
No because the magazines don't trust everyone who turns up at their front door. They like to stay legal and know they are legal.

JBM:
Many of us are curious about Eva. What does she do for your company?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Everything, she is the main shooter these days, I've lost interest in naked females. She also handles the accounts and admin. I'm just the pretty face on the reception. :)

JBM:
You live in the Czech republic. How big is the difference between the value of the dollar there and here in the United States?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Our income has shrunk by over 33% in the last 4 years due to the exchange rate. Thankfully the business has expanded 100% in the same time.

JBM:
Follow up on the previous question. How has that difference affected your business ventures?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Not a lot. Just wish the dollar, GB Pound, Euro would go back to what they were worth and the Czech Krown reduced in value.

JBM:
How do you go about finding new talent?

PAUL MARKHAM:
I stand on the street corners with Crack. Seriously, we advertise, models bring friends and agents. Getting models is the easy part of the job.

JBM:
Have you ever ran into any issues with the parents of your models?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Never, they blame their daughters. Boyfriends are the problem, but very rarely.

JBM:
What are you plans in the near future as far as the industry is concerned? Do you have any plans to open any affiliate type ventures, maybe a single girl site?

PAUL MARKHAM:
We will open the review site soon, then look at maybe another site. I was thinking about a good teen hardcore site. Everyone does single girl.

JBM:
Do you have any regrets about this industry?

PAUL MARKHAM:
No.

JBM:
If you could book anyone in the industry for a shoot, who would it be? and why?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Not that keen to shoot anyone, I prefer working with fun newbies. But then I don't shoot any more.

JBM:
How do you combat the piracy of your work? (through p2p, on fusker sites etc)

PAUL MARKHAM:
Try to stop it when I can, but it's not profitable. Stick a watermark on it and it's an advert. Talking about paysite content now. You can lose more money than you save by chasing pirates.

JBM:
How have the TGP's affected your business?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Smart affiliates buy content for them. They also help addict under 18s to porn and jerking off.

JBM:
What is your biggest fear?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Growing old and not being able to see my youngest daughter married.

JBM:
Do you have a role model?

PAUL MARKHAM:
Everyone who is better than me at something. I rarely do anything very innovative. I usually follow others examples. I suppose on the paysite side Bailey Brown and Steve Lightspeed.

JBM:
Tell us a funny story.

PAUL MARKHAM:
I was walking along the beach in England last year and saw an old bottle in the sand. Picked it up and tried to read the label, it was dirty so I gave it a quick rub. All of a sudden a genie popped out and said he would grant me any wish. So I told him how much I like French food, so could he build me a bridge to France.

He answered he could not, the sea bed, shipping, weather and regulations made it impossible. So I asked him for the gift of understanding women.

He asked if I wanted lights on the bridge.

JBM:
Do you think nick3131 content would sell? (samples)

PAUL MARKHAM:
Very cute and I would have work for you.

JBM:
This is your chance to tell everyone why www.bargainbasementcontent.com is absolutely the best site on the universe.

PAUL MARKHAM:
It's not. It's just as good as I can make it and the prices are great.

www.paulmarkham.com is better content, sells less times and for a bit more. I'm just one of a few good content providers.
